In the original country School District 49 of Miami County, Kansas, Vickers School was first chartered in 1869. The historic school building standing today was said to have been built in 1891 and named after a member of the governing school board.

Constructed as a single room with wooden floors, 13 foot high ceilings and large double-hung windows, it is the quintessential little one-room school on the prairie. And much of this original charm can be experienced today.

To learn more, check out our blog (The Library) as we publish more history on the old schoolhouse as it’s uncovered.
